Karen Elson and Jack White split up!

In sad news, Jack White, frontman of the now defunct White Stripes and the mastermind behind The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, is splitting up with his wife Karen Elson. White met the British model/singer when she appeared in the music video for the White Stripes single 'Blue Orchid.' The pair married in June 2005 in Brazil and went on to have two children, Scarlett Teresa and Henry Lee.

In an interesting twist, the news doesn't come across as particularly sad for White, 35, and Elson, 32. Instead of the high-priced lawyers, courtroom drama and custody battles that have become synonymous with a celebrity split, the quirky twosome has instead decided to throw a party celebrating their six-year anniversary and their impending divorce. The event, which is open only to close friends and family ("no plus ones or dead beats"), will take place tonight (June 10) at a secret location in Nashville, Tenn. The couple has lived in Nashville since they were married.

White and Elson released a statement regarding their upcoming joyous un-nuptials saying, "We remain dear and trusted friends and co-parents to our wonderful children Scarlett and Henry Lee. We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow. In honor of that time shared, we are throwing a divorce party, an evening together in Nashville to re-affirm our friendship and celebrate the past and future with close friends and family."

According to the invitation, posted on the website for their PR reps
Nasty Little Man, it promises to be a "positive swing back hum dinger" complete with "dancing, photos, memories, and drinks with alcohol in them." It invites their select guests to "celebrate together this anniversary of the making and breaking of the sacred union of marriage."

If only all divorces were this much fun.

Tracy Morgan Apologizes for Homophobic Rant | Tracy Morgan

After accusations that he delivered a homophobic rant at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium that even caused the venue's owners to distance themselves from what was said to an audience there last Friday, the 30 Rock actor, who plays the oafish Tracy Jordan on the NBC sitcom, has issued the following statement:

"I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I'm not a hateful person and don't condone any kind of violence against others," said Morgan, 42, reports
EW.com.

"While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context."

After Morgan's performance in Nashville, an audience member named Kevin Rogers posted an essay on
his Facebook page, titled, "Why I No Longer 'Like' Tracy Morgan." (Warning: the essay contains strong language to describe what Rogers writes was said onstage by Morgan.)

After Rogers cited the comedian's barrage of anti-gay remarks, Jordan was roundly condemned around the Web and by such groups as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

In 2009, Morgan was accused of making anti-gay comments as part of his comedy routine during a performance at Carnegie Hall, reported New York's
Daily News.

Ryman Auditorium's statement said that the theater "regrets that people were offended by statements" delivered by Morgan, and noted it "does not control the content presented by people appearing on its stage, nor does it endorse any of the views of, or statements made by, such persons."

In response to Morgan's apology Friday, Fred Sainz, vice president for communications for the Human Rights Campaign, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender human rights organization, said the comic should do more than apologize. "He also needs to go further than his apology and correct the record: no one should feel ashamed because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and they should definitely not become a victim of violence," Sainz says in a statement. "Words have consequences and Morgan should be held to a higher standard. Until he does something meaningful, his brand will remain tarnished."

O melhor candidato do BE

“There seems to be a protectiveness between Mother and Child. They are joined by the tenderness of their mutual caress. However, the symbols speak of far more than the sharing of a loving moment. They recall the blood sacrifice, the separation by death and the victory of the Resurrection. Mary holds the mystery of salvation in her arms. The sorrowful look of love on her face reminds us that we are bought with a price beyond measure. For creator of the universe Himself has come into the world to accomplish it and this is the" ineffable mystery of God.”

O que significa ser revolucionário hoje? Marxismo

Para quem se preocupa com o rumo político actual, uma proposta para revitalizar a esquerda radical que procure dar voz ao descontentamento perante o liberalismo actual, a opção é deixar isso à responsabilidade do nacionalismo popular.

Valero Doval’s compositions invite us inside. He navigates through printed ephemera, revealing the interior. His collages are an unlikely intersection between pure geometry and memories of the past. It is as if breathing under each lamina, latent and brilliant, lies a network of connections. What emerges is that which is between the lines and levels. The equilibrium Doval attains is, at once, casual, poetic, and circus-like. Doval has invented a spectroscope that exposes in his images a hidden anatomy; shapes, peaceful and happy, float around us like a surreal opening for a purely artistic otherness and ideal.

What is the meaning behind Chris Ofili's 'no woman no cry'?

"Taking its title from a 1974 song by Bob Marley, Chris Ofili’s No Woman No Cry (1998) is a tribute to the family of Stephen Lawrence, a London teenager who was murdered by a racist gang. Ofili’s work here becomes the starting point for a discussion about the way in which this event has become a focus for political activism, remembrance and, through Doreen Lawrence and the Stephen Lawrence Trust, ongoing change in society."

Al Pacino to receive the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award

Jaeger-Le Coultre Glory to the Filmmaker 2011 Award

Legendary American actor and director Al Pacino is the recipient of the Jaeger-Le Coultre Glory to the Filmmaker 2011 Award, a prize of the Venice International Film Festival(organized by the Biennale di Venezia), created in collaboration with Jaeger-Le Coultre, and dedicated to an artist who has left an original mark on contemporary cinema.

The prize has previously been awarded to some of the greatest figures in film including: Takeshi Kitano (2007), Abbas Kiarostami (2008), Agnès Varda (2008), Sylvester Stallone (2009) and Mani Ratnam (2010).

This year, the award will celebrate Al Pacino and his achievements as a filmmaker. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday September 4th during the 68th Venice International Film Festival (August 31st September 10th 2011) directed by Marco Müller and organized by the Biennale di Venezia chaired by Paolo Baratta. Festival Director, Marco Müller, describes Pacino as, An amazing director, whose experience is precious and original, and enriches the world of contemporary film. The award ceremony will precede the world premiere of Pacinos third feature-length directorial picture, Wilde Salome. Referred to as his "most personal project ever," the unconventional feature documentary invites audiences into Pacinos private world, as he explores the complexities of Oscar Wildes acclaimed play Salome, Wilde himself and the birth of a rising star, in actress Jessica Chastain.

There is nowhere else I would rather debut Wilde Salome than at Venice, because of its rich artistic history. Wilde Salome is an exploration into the world of Oscar Wilde the artist and inSalome, the emancipation of a work that lives on said Pacino.

Al Pacino has become a lasting and iconic figure in the world of American cinema. Pacino started on the stage in the mid 1960s and his heart still remains there today. In 1969 he broke through on screen with the film, Me, Natalie. With the role of Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppolas Award winning The Godfather, Pacino launched a career that has cemented him not only as an acting legend but as a cultural icon, with roles in such films asSerpico, Dog Day Afternoonand Scarface. Pacino has never lost his dedication to the theatre, most recently receiving a Tony Award Nomination for the critically acclaimed Broadway production of The Merchant of Venice. InLooking for Richard he examined Shakespeares cultural relevance with Richard III and won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary. He has provided audiences with indelible performances in films such as Glengarry Glen Ross, Carlito's Way, Heat, The Devil's Advocate, The Insider and Scent of a Woman, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1992, after receiving seven previous nominations. He has won the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award and is currently the co-President of The Actors Studio in New York. Pacinos commitment to acting and directing as a profession has established him as one of cinemas true legends.

Wilde Salome
offers an unprecedented behind the scenes look at Pacinos odyssey: a master class of insight into this cultural icon. Pacino's raw exploration of Salome is one of obsession, determination, commitment and above all, passion. Wilde Salome is unlike any other documentary, a profound vision of religion, literature, politics, violence and sexuality from one of the greatest artists of our time.

Wilde Salome will be released this fall and stars Al Pacino (Herod), Jessica Chastain(Salomé), and Kevin Anderson (John the Baptist), and is produced by Barry Navidi and Robert Fox, with Salome Productions.

Jaeger-Le Coultre is now in its seventh year as a sponsor of the Venice International Film Festival, and in its fifth year as the sponsor of the Glory to the Filmmaker award.
