CURATOR FOR 7 DAYS

Artwork nº2

Hotel Room

1931

Edward Hopper, 1882-1967

Oil on canvas
Height : 152.40 cm
Width : 165.70 cm

The today's Curator for 7 days piece recalls a well known resemblance between Edward Hopper and the scene composition on Wim Wenders films, particularly The Million Dollar Hotel (2000). This should come as no surprise taking the painting\art critic\ philosophy academic background of the film director. The suicide fall from the roof of The Million Dollar Hotel in the film's opening sequence gives us Hopper-esque peaks into the windows and lives of the rooms on the way down to the pavement while the narrator tell us: "Life is perfect. I guess you don't see it all that clearly when you're, you know, alive."
