Stjepan Gracan

Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of Stjepan Gracan bio was the foundation of the Biafra art group, not be mistaken with the republic of Biafra the African state in south-eastern Nigeria that existed from 30 May 1967 to 15 January 1970, alongside with young sculptors Branco Bunic, Ratko Petric and Miro Vuco challenging the existing art, cultural and social conventions. The group had a clearly defined stance against all current forms of abstract art and the belief that art is above all a critical activity that must speak about their own environment. Their effect was subject to misunderstandings, controversy and criticism of the division for the ten years that followed
